Age: 25
Current Characters: Bucky Barnes
Character: Freya Crescent
Age: 21
Canon: Final Fantasy IX
Canon Point: Shortly after the destruction of Cleyra.
Background: Freya's History at the FF Wiki.
Personality: Two of Freya's core traits are her loyalty and dedication. She never wavers or doubts the sincerity of her friends and comrades, be they old friends or new. Even when she learns of the black mage attacks to Burmecia, she only once doubts the young Vivi's allegiances, which could be attributed to the shock at the state of her fellow soldiers. Although she hasn't known him long, the young mage proves himself trustworthy by fighting alongside her, and she quickly considers him a comrade and friend. This quality has also brought her the trust and loyalty of her fellow Burmecian soldiers, as well, as they step down when she explains that Vivi is not a threat to them, and they beseech her to protect the king.
Despite her long absence from her home of Burmecia, Freya doesn't hesitate to come to its aid once she hears that the city is in danger, stating that she cannot wait for their ally Lindblum's forces to depart. Once she arrives, she immediately begins her search for the king, vowing to protect him to every fallen soldier she comes across. Discovering that her king and the refugees from the attack have fled to Cleyra, she follows in the hopes of serving them and preventing further tragedy. And after she witnesses the destruction of her people and the death of her king, Freya is overcome by emotion, in despair that she could not defend them.
Of course, her greatest loyalty remains to her love and fellow Dragon Knight, Fratley. Two years after he departed Burmecia, she went on her own journey to search for him; although she found only footsteps and rumors, she continued and refused to believe the idea that he had died. She never gave up on him, right up until their emotional reunion in Cleyra. Even though she learns in this meeting that he's lost all memory of his life and of her, she remains dedicated to him, and at the end of the game, she is at his side, helping to rebuild Burmecia.
However, this also shows how stubborn she can be once she truly sets her mind to something. Once she finds a goal to pursue of her own, she will never give it up until absolute proof of failure is presented to her. While this may give her an advantage in many situations, it also means that she is all the more likely to suffer if and when she does fail. She may not appear outwardly to be consumed by her goals, but they constantly occupy her thoughts; long after Burmecia is destroyed, she still wonders what-ifs to herself, and wishes that Fratley was with the group as they continue their attempts to foil Kuja's plans.
She also has a great desire to protect and assist others. It's one of the things that drove her to become a Dragon Knight for her country at a young age, and although she's been selfish at times in her youth, she's always done her best to protect those around her. After finding Burmecia in ruins, she swears to protect the Cleyra settlement and the people who live there, including the refugees from her fallen home. When she sees Zidane protecting two children from a rampaging monster during the Festival of the Hunt in Lindblum, she steps in to help, taking it seriously despite Zidane treating it like a competition.
She is a great friend, and she often considers her friends' and acquaintances' feelings and safety. She makes a few jokes with Zidane, claiming she'll kick his butt for his jesting, showing that she can be just as casual and personable as she can be serious in the right situations. When meeting a livid Eiko, she attempts to calm the girl down by asking her name, showing that she has no problems dealing with children, and when speaking with Amarant in Treno, she can show her considerate side; although she's curious about his past, she can say she "won't force it out of him." And when moving forward through Gizamaluke's Grotto and Burmecia, Freya asks Vivi if he wishes to continue, advising him that he may find things that may change his life for the worse.
Her clever, logical side tends to show through when she advises her friends in this way; her experience as a knight and a world traveler gives her a foresight that many lack. Despite not being there when the team meet Kuja at the Iifa tree, she is quick to theorize that he might come after Dagger for her summoning abilities, which he later does. She doesn't hesitate to set aside her own feelings if it benefits the situation, teaming up with former enemy Beatrix--who helped destroy Burmecia and Cleyra, and whom she openly admits she doesn't forgive--once the latter has a change of heart in order to defend Dagger and the others.
Thanks to her dedication to others and the loss of Fratley and her home, however, Freya has little desire to search for a new goal of her own, instead preferring following others. She has a tendency to cling to particular people--people who make significant impressions on her--in the sense that she will follow them without pause. Fratley was the first example of this, and Zidane followed shortly after. Even though she may give advice to these people, she isn't likely to do much more to stop them from doing what they wish, even if it seems as if it would be dangerous for them. This may, at times, result in negative consequences she may have been able to prevent, and she may take this upon herself as a failure of her own.
She's quick to step up to a challenge, visiting Lindblum for the Hunt as a way to test her skills, and challenging Amarant when he questions her abilities. She's always seeking improvement in order to defend those important to her more effectively. That isn't to say she does nothing but fight; as a world traveler, she's picked up a curiosity for new things and places, and does enjoy taking a brief vacation in Treno to sightsee after Dagger's coronation.
Freya is no stranger to battle and loss; she is serious and steadfast in dangerous situations partially thanks to this, and she may take a few moments to honor those lost, but she is always moving forward. She knows that sitting and crying does nothing to improve a situation, though she can't help but shed a few tears after discovering Fratley had forgotten her. Even after the loss of Burmecia, Cleyra, her king, and (apparently) her love, Freya takes little time to mourn. After a moment of kneeling silently on the queen's airship, she rejoins Zidane and Vivi to investigate Brahne's next move, and once they learn that Dagger was in danger, Freya continues with them to rescue her despite the tragedies she just suffered.
Although she's experienced losses before, she still feels intensely about what she's been through; because she doesn't display her true feelings often, there are many pent up feelings that she has yet to work out. These feelings drive her to focus on a single goal or person and to improve her battle skills for the sake of achieving it or helping said person, often at the expense of her own grieving time. She is determined not to let others see how things have affected her, despite the fact that she'd be able to work them through more easily if she had someone to lean on; she does not tend to speak of her suffering with anyone, even those closest to her.
She will do whatever it takes to keep from losing anyone else; she has lost Sir Fratley twice, once when he left Burmecia to keep peace, and again once he admits he's forgotten her and supposedly dies in the destruction of Cleyra. The loss of both of her people's nations and her love drives her to work harder to protect others; having lost her own causes, she will adopt those of her friends and defend what they find important, as she does to protect Dagger when Queen Brahne intends to kill her.
